Hi,
I have an offer to buy
NEW Geomax zoom30pro a6 (600m non prism meas.) for a good price and 2 year of guarantie.
and
USED (in wery good shape) Sokkia SET 650RX (600m non prism meas.) for about 55% of Geomax price.
I already have a Sokia SET610, and it is wery similar to 650RX.
I am more than happy with my old Sokkia and it worked (still work) hard past 11 years without ANY problems.

Sokkia have IP66, and Geomax IP55, is that a big diference for normal surveying use (of course, I will sometimes catch a big rain and dust near roads etc)?
I dont know what kind of brand Geomax is, and how it is durable, so I would like to find out does anybody use Geomax and is he happy with it.
Have in mind that those are wery big money in my country, and it takes long for total station to pay of.
What would you do if you were in my position, THANKS!

I know nothing about Geomax. I look at that and most other new equipment and am reminded of reverse engineering techniques.

Less weight is good for carrying. It will not replace the durability of a Set 4 or a Zeiss Elta.

I have one Nikon-Gurley theo from circa 1970. As an instrument it is a lighweight in comparison to Sokkia.

All my TS and prismless equipment is used Sokkia that I purchased from other surveyors thru EBay.

I was told recently that Sokkia is now a part of Topcon.

You might want to consider how long you expect or hope to use the equipment. A new system will have a longer service life with replacement parts, etc. These are all electronic devises and subject to the end of life and "we don't have parts" problems that plague all of us. I like newer is better because of serviceability.

I think both brands are highly thought of.

T.W.

Geomax is made by leica.

I'm choosing between a geomax, trimble s7, and a focus 35.

I had a focus 30 and loved it but maybe wanted to upgrade to something even better but I think the geomax does about the same as the focus 30 did.

If your old gun still works, keep using it. Buy neither, but save your pennies instead.

Geomax is owned Hexagon, the parent company of Leica. It is neither sold or supported by Leica. Go with the Focus 35, you can get it under $20k as an entire package, it works, as far as I am concerned, as good as the passive technology on the Trimble equipment and there are plenty of service centers and support channels out there.

Unfortunately my old gun met it's death on flagstone. 🙁

I loved the focus 30. I could go with the 35 which is the same gun except I wanted to also have the active prism as an option for certain jobs.

I might just end up going with the 35. I wish my 30 didn't break bc I want 2 robotics by the summers end

geomax is a rogue division of hexagon what got ahold of the leica 1200 technology and designs.
leica hates them yet hexagon bought leica so leica had to share.
the current geomax seems identical to a tps1200, before the 1200+ came out, with its new quartz bearing surface drives, and maybe before the IR and RL got integrated into the same EDM assembly? an instrument whose design has been improved upon since then, for sure, it's still a 2005 Rolls Royce, improved from 95% perfect to 99% perfect and overkill for any practical surveying

played with one for a few minutes and the onboard apps are the same as the 1200.
the tech says he can fix them without a secret decoder ring. that's kinda refreshing.

leica has a 14,000 dollar trade in for any instrument right now and it does not need to be in working order

The promo text I've seen says the trade-in is "up to" $14k. Details, anyone?

I believe the full $14K trade in credit is for a robotic collector with a collector. I'm trading in my three oldest series 1200 robots for two TS16i imaging guns and an MS60. The kids should have their new toys by Christmas 😀

What's the price point on a TS16i as you've configured them?

Jim,

I was quoted something like $45k for a 16i and a CS20 with Captivate.

Jim, where are you seeing this promo information?
Is it on the Leica website somewhere? curious if it has to be Leica equipment or any robotic system

Thanks

I think it pertains to any motorized total station. It's probably available through all Leica dealers, but I did a quick search and found it on the Holman's site.
