As far as I know or recall, this was the old old method of designating the 16th corners before the way they are now marked. I've ran across them being marked this way in only one area that I've worked in, up out of Basin, Wyoming, by a surveyor that was operating around there in the early 1900's.

I think if you wanted to mark them using that method, it still can be done, but without the diagram or being very familiar with the concept, it would be a PIA to figure out where you were. :confounded:

That's about as confusing as you can get and remain unambiguous for the folks with the secret decoder ring.

But what do you mark when the 16/8 of one section is the same point as 16/3 of the next section, etc? Do you put both?
