Current BLM Manual (1973 Manual is not used after the last test), Digest of Laws, Title 28 of North Dakota Adminstrative Code, NDCC 43-19.1, BLM Glossary, ACSM Definitions of Surveying and Associated Terms, and NDSPLS Recommended Guidelines for the Practice of Land Surveying in North Dakota.

I didn't find it hard, but only 3 of the 4 applicants in the room passed. It took me 1 hour 50 minutes to finish the max two hour open book test. The only reason I missed a couple of questions is because I didn't have one of the reference books (I believe I forgot to read the NSDSPLS Recommended Guidelines, so I missed a couple questions from that book).

The board will send you this list and the digest of laws on a CD if your application to take the test is approved. The old BLM Manual was downloadable from the internet (I assume the new one is too). The recommended practices is on the NDSPLS's website. I would recommend having a copy of Black's Law Dictionary. I think I actually referred to it a couple of times.

Michael & Andy,

The new manual is not downloadable from the internet, as least nowhere i could find. I had to buy mine from the ACSM store. It was about $90 or so including shipping.

Good luck on the exam.

Jimmy

Andy,

As has been reported, the new one is available only as a hardcopy book. It is not a Government product even though it is adopted(I believe)by the BLM. There are private entities and copyrights involved.
