This discussion reminds me of the guy who showed up at his class reunion in an expensive car, with an expensive suit, etc. Since he had been considered least likely to succeed in the class, after having a particularly tough time with math, everybody was asking him what he had been doing.
"Well," he said, "I invented a gadget that I can sell zillions of for $5 each but only costs me $1 to make. You'd be surprised how fast that 4% can add up.
> I went from 1 minute to 5 minutes.
Your increase was 400%. Your total is now 500% of the original, 100% + 400% = 500%.:-)
> That's quite short... I wonder who has the longest commute? Hour and a half one way for my surveyor wife
I have one field party out that has a 650+/- mile drive from the office to the jobsite.
That far enough?:-P

The minutes and miles are still the same as anywhere else - it's just that when you drive across Texas in some rusted out beater from up North with no air conditioner, it will seem longer.
If the sale of your town house will pay off the mortgage where you now are, keep living in that remodeled house, don't need to go back into debt during these times. Besides 2 homes on 67 acres is getting a bit over crowded.

While I don't disagree with the conservative rational of your argument, the second house on the farm will, at some point, house either my folks (which my Mom said she's not leaving her house) or my in-laws cause I'm not driving 2 hours to check on my in-laws when I KNOW my sister in law won't stop by except to mooch from them.
Until then, it's a revenue stream baby!
My commute time is now increased by 500%>spledeus
Yes, Thursday. I feel the end of my presidency drawing near. We need volunteers badly. Will continue this on a new thread.

Just yesterday, a Texan drove by my woodlot and asked me how big it was. "100 acres", I replied.
So he says,"Do you know that on my ranch in Texas, I can drive for 5 hours and still be on my own land?"
So I tell him, " I had a car like that once."
