It was yesterday. I had 13 miles of closed road to get to here to unload the sled and load up equipment.
I rode 7 miles and set up here.
It is above the Rio Grande Reservior, the headwaters of the big river.
That's the reservior down at the bottom.
The first photo is at the dam. It's a long narrow reservior. Pretty place to spend the day.

His name was Jeremiah Johnson, and they say he wanted to be a mountain man. The story goes that he was a man of proper wit and adventurous spirit, suited to the mountains. Nobody knows where abouts he come from and don't seem to matter much. He was a young man and ghosty stories about the tall hills didn't scare him none. He was looking for a Hawken gun, .50 caliber or better. He settled for a .30, but damn, it was a genuine Hawken, and you couldn't go no better. Bought him a good horse, and traps, and other truck that went with being a mountain man, and said good-bye to whatever life was down there below.
I ain't never seen 'em, but my common sense tells me the Andes is foothills, and the Alps is for children to climb! Keep good care of your hair! These here is God's finest scupturings! And there ain't no laws for the brave ones! And there ain't no asylums for the crazy ones! And there ain't no churches, except for this right here! And there ain't no priests excepting the birds. By God, I are a mountain man, and I'll live 'til an arrow or a bullet finds me. And then I'll leave my bones on this great map of the magnificent . . .

I've always wanted to ride a snowmobile. 🙂 Wonder if it is the same as riding a wave runner??
Yeah, kinda. Depending on whether you like warm or cold more will dictate whether you like the wave runner or snow mobile. Just get one with hand warmers. 🙂
Angel-
At least with a life preserver you can swim and bob around if your machine quits.
One of the lesser known joys of snowmobiling to a neophyte is trying to travel on deep fresh snow.
It ain't fun breaking trail on snow shoes to set a base.
I learned early on to make a circle when you are to stop at a point, as starting on an unpacked base without a trail is also 'fun' !

PS-
It's too bad young Kent only has a season and a bit and cannot snowmobile in Metro
Austin ! 😉
Good point, guys! I MUCH rather have warm weather and water than the snow kinda weather!! I LOVE them jet skis and wave runners. 🙂
Here's me and the kid on the river in September 2003. It was only 110º out. Wendell was NOT thrilled to be in that kinda weather. LOL!!!
