Multiple coordinate systems in STARNET

This is one of my favorite functions in STARNET.

We have to deal with State Plane, a City "legacy' system, a Railroad coordinate system, and eleven different axis coordinate systems on one project.

So, it could get a little frustrating, but STARNET comes to the rescue.

If you just go into the project defaults, you can set a ground file.
Enter the base point coordinates, scale, rotation and a value for the new coordinate origin.
In this case, "WP1M" is the theoretical origin given by the architect. I enter it's coordinate values in the raw and set it as held in the adjustment then choose the given coordinates in the dump file.
So, I get axis line coordinates without having to physically locate the point.

Then when you run the adjustment, you get your "regular" control coordinates.

And in the ground file, you get your axis line coordinates.

When your project is as cluttered as ours is, this feature is a neat little function to have.

That function has been available for a while now. Version 6? I think. Ron Sawyer was still running things when he came up with that. I'm not taking credit for the idea, but he did call me to discuss it while he was developing it.

Thanks for the info. about STARNET and the version (V6). I just checked the manual
I copied when I used STARNET(circa 1992-1994) and it was V5. For some reason I thought I was using V3.2 ?

What is the latest on STARNET and did Ron retire? How much does STARNET cost now?

Version 8 is the latest. Ron Sawyer sold out to Microsurvey several years (5?) ago. The current version is the second released since the takeover. It is currently $1995 plus $200 for each data converter you need. IF you have an old version lying around they will credit you. Try out the 10 day demo before you buy!

OK I had to put my close-up glasses on to confirm that price. There is no way I would pay $1995 for STARNET. Of course I am old and have been retired for 18 years.

PS I do believe there are other adjustment programs out there that are cheaper. I guess I will do an Internet to see if there are and how much they cost.

Yes, it's in Ver. 6. I've never used the "Ground Coordinates" feature and so hadn't even gotten to the dialog box that asked how I wanted to rotate and translate the output coordinates. :>

It's all about matching the tools to the job. I doubt I will purchase the latest and greatest after I retire either. Having used Trimble from trim net through TBC along with various flavors of Leica, Ashtech and Topcon I cannot crow loud enough about Starnet. It is without a doubt the most useful software I've ever owned.
