I'm not sure I understand bringing in fill dirt for a detention pond, we're flat as a pancake here in Houston, but i suppose different places require different things.

Stake to the end of stability and call it done. If they move dirt that wet it will be getting turned over later anyway.
My favorite along these lines was cross-sectioning a detention basin. The Engineer had to have data that day. The ice wasn't thick enough to walk on. I put on the waders and cut sections through the ice across the chest deep water. Long cold day for sure. A few days later we drove by and noticed the basin was empty. All we could do was laugh...
