Predicting 10 below tonight with wind chills of 30 below.

Even with tons of clothes on you can't stay in that environment for more than 60 seconds or so can you? And the dog's feet, don't they get frostbitted? That's the weather you can turn coffee to ice in a nanosecond. I will never understand how y'all can tolerate that kind of cold.

Flipping the coin I know many wouldn't live in this heat and humidity for all the tea in China. (actually I never met anyone who wanted all the tea in China but I digress). Live and let live.

It's not all that dangerous if you're dressed correctly.?ÿ Keep your skin covered and don't breathe through you mouth a whole bunch.?ÿ Frozen eyelashes and frosty mustaches are standard issue.?ÿ I'm sure there's people that can stay out in 10 below weather and even lower, just not me.

I was shoveling this morning at 2 below.?ÿ I actually stayed fairly warm with the activity.?ÿ I was out there about an hour.?ÿ That consisted of 5 minute work modules broken with by two or three minute rests.?ÿ Resting was just standing there until I got cold and then I started moving again.

I agree none of it is anywhere near comfortable.?ÿ But just like your weather of 95 degrees and 95% humidity, you just dress for it and endure.?ÿ 😉

I agree with Uncle Paden. Clothing and activity can keep you until the wind chill gets really extreme. Actually, I am getting soft and avoid going out much these days at either extreme.

At 95 or 100 F out in the sun (with a hat) I'm in serious fear for my health and not exerting myself any more than the absolute minimum.?ÿ I recall a GPSonBM session in that kind of weather when I was alternately putting wet cloths on my head or fanning them to cool, while sitting in the van with the doors open and waiting for the session to end.?ÿ The sun got on the liquid crystal display on the receiver and it went blank until I re-shaded it, and metal was too hot to touch with bare hands.?ÿ I couldn't drink enough water that day to get it to my bladder.

Either extreme will get you, and you can do more to protect yourself from cold.

On February 16 an official weather station within 20 miles of my house recorded -22 F around 7:00 a.m.?ÿ The record low for that date and location had been -3 F.?ÿ The all-time record low on any date of the year was -23 F in 1949.?ÿ The air speed was around 5 mph so there was minimal wind chill to go with that record.?ÿ Insane!?ÿ This afternoon we hit 23 F.?ÿ ?ÿBy Monday we should be over 50 F in the afternoon.

I took out the dogs yesterday morning to see the sunrise and it was -12F at the AP a half mile away.?ÿ It was almost calm and I remember thinking "this ain't too bad with no wind".

I had on a hoodie under a Carhartt parka.?ÿ My face was covered with a wool wrap scarf but my nose had poked out.?ÿ Just a few minutes after I thought this wasn't that bad, I wrinkled my face to snuff-up my running nose..it stayed all wrinkled up..and I realized my face was in the process of freezing.

The dogs were starting to dance on the snow because their feet were freezing.?ÿ Time to head indoors.?ÿ Total elapsed time:?ÿ 10 minutes.?ÿ

I did watch the sunrise a few minutes later...from my kitchen window.
