I'll preface this by saying I am not licensed in Mississippi, have never done work in Mississippi and have no plans to work there in the near future.

Has Mississippi adopted a standard for either the US foot or international foot?

I have a friend (unlicensed) that recently moved there and he doesn't know the answer and his boss (licensed) doesn't either. My friend is out blasting away and he doesn't even which foot to use.

Thanks in advance!

I believe the "bare foot" is prevalent in the Magnolia State. 😀

A quick Google search finds this from the Mississippi code. It's old but unlikely to have changed. They should find the latest statutes to be sure they have all the rules.

SEC. 89-6-17. Conversion of distances or coordinates between English and metric unit.

Any conversion of distances or coordinates between the English and metric unit shall be made using the following conversion factor: one (1) meter equals 3.280833333 1 /3 U.S. Survey feet. A minimum of ten (10) significant figures shall be used when converting coordinates.

Maybe up there in North Mississippi 😉

It's a little warmer down in my family's neck of the woods

Not sure if I've ever been to Woodville. I've been to Natchez and St. Francisville, so I've been close. It sounds like a nice town.

I find it VERY disturbing that someone that is supposedly registered in my state does not know the answer to this question. It must be one of the questions that they missed on the exam.
It's clearly stated in the regs. Copies of the referenced legislative actions are available on the State Board Web Site along with the Minimum Technical Standards. Sounds to me like their "GOOGLE" is busted.

FWIW, the PLS is a PE that recently got licensed as a PLS. The PE/PLS has no idea how to collect/process data. He has a decent sized engineering outfit and is trying to establish the survey department to support his engineering work. I still agree that he should be "minimally competent" and should know something that basic. Thanks for your input. I guess they were using the proper conversion.

The PE would have had to have taken the PLS exam. They no longer "grandfather" PE's to PLS's. Last I heard, that was one of the questions on the exam. Like I said, that's probably one that he missed.
The other thing is, most of the VAR's that we buy equipment from are real quick to point this item out when they sell us equipment and are showing us how to use it. This guy needs to get onto his VAR. More and more of these guys are "just salesmen" and know nothing about what they are selling. A competent VAR is worth his weight in gold.
