we're going to be using AZGPS for network solutions for a couple of our receivers, and rather than phones, we're going to use a Verizon Jetpask mi-fi hotspot.
We're looking at either the 4620LE or the newer 5510L - does anyone have experience with these units? I'll be buying some 5000mah batteries to go with, that should last all day. any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.
thanks.

Joe,

I have an ATT Elevate and it is wonderful. They (ATT) recently switched on LTE here and I don't know if I have the ability to accurately evaluate the speed here in town, I suspect it is usually better than 25 Meg.

As Gavin suggests, it does have two external antenna connectors. However I have never used them.

I have put the MiFi up on the top of a tall (20') prism pole, on top of a tall ridge line and turned up the output power for the WiFi segment. I can get almost 500 feet away from the MiFi.

A while ago I posted this summary of MiFi vs. Built-In Radio: [ Mark's Notes ].

Good luck!

Mark

We plan on keeping the mi-fi jetpack with the rover and data collector on the pole - is the external antenna still necessary? thanks - I think the newer 5510l model does not have this.

I haven't used either of the models you listed but I have used a 4510L. Worked great with one exception - it will get hot. We had it strapped to the GPS pole in a padded cell phone pouch. With summer temps, it would reach a maximum operating temperature and shut down.
