Has anybody reading this thread ever mapped LoRa signals and their strength dBm (decibel milliwatts)? What sort of gadget did you use for measuring the RSSI and SNR?

I've been playing around with Emlid RS2+ units and testing their internal LoRa communications for its base to rover corrections; however, they don't have a radio signal strength indicator or signal to noise indicator. It either has or hasn't received the base's LoRa signal, or maybe it's just in a dicey location and sort of flickers on and off.

Hi Gary,

Thank you for the reply.

That's a pretty big website. Is there a specific article at rtl.sdr to which you were referring?

@kelly

Yea, it is loaded with information and a lot of it was overe my head. I sorta started reading all the  links to get an idea of what the hardware, software does and how to use it properly. I am sure I fell short of the properly part !

If you go to the store page they have a kit there for $42.00 . I actually messed up and bought a fake one which still worked "OK".

On the software page there is a link to free software, SDR.

I am in no way a "radio guy" to be sure, but  I was not familiar with LORA and wanted to understand what it was.

For the $42 bucks it was fun for me to play with. There are a number of LORA related videos on Youtube also.

It has bee a few years and I lost all my LORA, RTL-SDR data when my hard drive on the laptop crashed so I don' have my data or the articles I saved, sorry.

I did have trouble getting GPS data from the Emlid into OPUS and ended up returnignthe unit and purchasinga  iGage unit for GPS on BM.

Gary

@gary_g

Thank you for the reply. And yes, there are quite a few videos on LoRa! Richard Wenner is a particular delight; e.g.,

The RTL-SDR STORE page mentions the word 'lora' zero times. Can you recall if any of the items listed on that page was what you are speaking about?

I've only been testing the Emlid RS2+ (and the RX). I'm retired and have no need to be buying any new GNSS equipment, but do enjoy testing stuff for the nerdy fun of it and probably could swing a $42 purchase 🙂
