guy does a resub holding an erroneous monument, proportions out the error, ends up coming up .8' shy of the record P.I. in the road. surmising the intent was to subdivide at the P.I., however nothing in his metes and bounds would indicate as much, just B&Ds. if he'd a just gone back out one more time and dug one more hole...

I had one similar the other day. Prev Plat said PK in C/L. I searched, and no find. So, I plan to reset. I go to reset, and there it is. It gave nearly NO magnetic signal. I touched a magnet to the top of it, and NOW SHE SINGS! What had happened, is that the PK had been pounded hard. This flipped the polarity on the nail, so that lots of signal came out the SIDE instead of the ENDS of the nail, making it nearly null for giving off signal.

Then, I began thinking. Either PK needs to copy MAG HUB (TM) and magnetize their PK's, OR Mag Hub needs to change the name of their nails to something else. MH stands for MANHOLE in our language. Their choice of a name was a marketing blunder. Maybe they could rename them MC nails. (Magnetic Concrete) or something like that.

Why don't manufacturers consult the surveyors, before tooling up?

Nate

They got a pretty hip website, tho. I couldn't imagine dropping a reference to Manti Te’o's girlfriend on a professional website. LOL

funny, i just noticed that the other day, when i went to check and see if and how they'd added me into the mix. and i was a bit nervous about being the loose cannon when they offered me a chance to climb aboard...

solid guys, though. i wouldn't have agreed to work with too many other PEs.

OH. I'm sorry. I misunderstood your post. I thought you found someone else's pincushion. I see now. Actually your company looks a lot like the one I work for. Some of us have changes on our resume dating to 2008. We're kind of a young company compared to the various companies where we all worked in 2007.

Let me know if yall ever need survey help in North Dakota. I can't imagine ever doing any work there otherwise now that I have left the O&G business.

no worries a'tall. i agree even- and i really appreciate these guys for 1. knowing their stuff and 2. agreeing to bring me on largely on my terms (which means i'm doing ALL the field work and have a reliable guy in the office who can handle that godforsaken end of things). by the time he gets the data from me, it's 90% done, his job is a lot of annotating and red lining. i actually do some CAD work, but they let me office at home, and they made it clear that i don't have to button down and clean up like in a former co-existence as employees somewhere else.

they called me at about exactly the right time. been keeping super busy, and i'm largely free to do what i do best. so far it's been ideal.

here's a simplified version of what occurred on site, to clarify:

I've had rebar that I have both bought and found that would not make the detector sing.

Can't explain why, but it's very frustrating when you find it.
