Ok so I come from the old school with the HP 48. We "had" magnet upgraded on our FC 500 and its been a nightmare. So I went with the Spectra Ranger DC with the SurveyPro software. Always loved the TDS stuff. However we can not get the code libary from our office(carlson software) to import. We used an fld.file and xml.file on our FC500 with Magnet and it came right in. In the surveypro we only see an option for a "txt" file to be imported for codes. Tried to save the fld as a txt didnt work. Went into a cad drawing and tried to export the code libary as a txt file and it would accept that as a correct path. Any suggestions on getting this to work???

What problems were you having with Magnet?
I'm certain it is not a night mare, with proper support or training.
Try exporting your fld file as a csv file. Then you can open that in excel, copy out only the column with your descriptors, then paste that into a blank txt file. That should get your descriptions into Survey Pro. Of course if you want to view line work on your DC, survey pro (at least the version I use) has a specific format that may not work with your Carlson coding.

It wasnt lack of training. Im very familiar with TopSurv and Magnet. Topcon has documented issues with the FC500 and the new Magnet software. Its bled into all their DCs now. It loses bluetooth and locks up. They gave us a full refund on all products and downloads. Our supplier said its a "nightmare". I have all Topcon equipt. Robot and gps. Love them but they have issues with the new magnet. I would highly recommend not upgrading to the new edition. The Telsa is about the only DC they have they works with the older version. We spent months losing time and money. Topcon sent techs to us. No one can figure it out. The sales rep said its pretty common right now with the new download and they are trying to fix it. Meanwhile we are losing money. So SurveyPro it is which has had a grand track record.
Extremely happy with Topcon customer service. But we need to get to work. Thanks for the replies and help. We are up and rolling with the code lib from Carlsons now
For what it is worth, I use Magnet (version 2.7.1) on an FC-500 that runs an ES-103, GR-3's and Hiper+. I also have TopSurv 8 on an FC-250 that runs a Sokkia SRX robotic instrument and the Hiper+. So far I have not experienced any of the problems with Magnet or TopSurv that I have heard mentioned on this forum.
Yeah all our older versions worked also.
