While out in the big country with a client.
We were on 4-wheelers looking for buried metal. Took the metal detector off the back of the 4-wheeler and started looking. It almost screamed as I passed it over the point. We were on a high ridge 5-10 miles from any occupied structure and there were no human made sounds being made in the area.
When we started digging we were surrounded by coyote calls. Seemed to be coming from every direction.
The client said; "I think your metal detectir set them off, let's do that again."
Sure enough each time I made the detector squeal the coyotes would yelp and howl, almost as if they couldn't help themselves.
Very cool; not only a metal detector but a coyote detector also.
a couple of years ago I bought a subsurface off ebay. UPS delivered it to the house so when I got home from work, I opened it up, grabbed a pin and walkedd out into the driveway and turned it on- the sensitivity way maxed out so it started squealing.
The cat emerged from the garage doing the weird thing cats do- bouncing on straight legs with her tail straight up, bushed up like a hair brush. She came straight at me - climbed my leg like a buzz saw. I turned it off and she just dropped to the ground like she was stunned. clicked it on again and she freaked again.
Had to put her indoors so I could test the device. That freq just set her off.

I'd send that one back and get a coyote detector.
That may be the best reply to a post I've ever seen....
