I work for a construction company that currently uses a combination of Topcon GR-5 base/rovers, a panasonic rugged tablet (the model number is escaping me) and Agtek Graphic Grade. We are looking to upgrade the software/tablet combination and perhaps even the base/rover setup as Graphic Grade is very outdated.?ÿ

?ÿ

As of now we are looking into getting a tablet to run android OS as Agtek Smartgrade is run via android application. We primarily use Topcon files as all of our foreman use Pocket3d on a smaller handheld to run their jobs. In the survey department we typically use CAD files that we import into Agtek 3D (Agtek 4D files will not run on Graphic Grade) and create job files to load onto the foremans handhelds/gps equipped dozers and graders (which are also topcon).

?ÿ

I am looking for any suggestions regarding what software to use that will play nicely with the topcon files we use on a daily basis and will allow for an updated tablet/software combination. We aren't concerned with cost at the moment as we are really just beginning to look into newer/different programs than the current we use.?ÿ

that will play nicely with the topcon files

Why not simply go Topcon??ÿ

The BEST software is less relevant than good support and sales. A local sales person that knows what they are about is very important, in my experience.

Just talked to our local rep today about Magnet field/enterprise and will more than likely go that route. Thanks for the insight.

@dmyhill?ÿ

Agreed. If compatibility with Topcon is going to be a key requirement it's best to stick with Topcon.?ÿ?ÿ

@ctrunkle95 do you have to have Magnet Field? that seems overkill with the mention of mainly machine control & grading work in the first post. you could probably do just fine with Topcon Pocket 3D and in my opinion it is a more intuitive program for those who might not have surveyed as much before. I've helped train many newbies on it before & after a couple days of oversight they were fairly strong using it
