It must be said that Topcon has an extremely loyal client base. Probably even more loyal to the brand than the Trimble and Leica client bases are to theirs. I guess that they must be doing something right.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ
I'm not really loyal to any one brand so far. I like my Leica robot because it amazes me how well it works for being from 2010. The local Leica rep (from Toronto Ontario Canada) was very helpful when I was looking into them for my boss but he ultimately decided to go with Trimble to slowly get away from Fieldgenius completely.
I'm looking forward to trying a Trimble robot which is likely what I'll be using in another year or 2...but the service from cansel where we buy them is pretty poor. We just got an sx12 and an S5 and both prisms came with the bubble on top completely out of adjustment and the tribrach bubble on the S5 was the same. They also forgot to send the battery chargers for the S5.?ÿ
We had good service from our local Sokkia rep. I got to know him very well trying to get Fieldgenius running properly on their robot (it never happened) the rep let me try magnet field for months which fixed most of the problems. Then we traded a Fieldgenius license for it so I could keep using the robot without throwing it off a cliff.?ÿ
I think good support and good hardware are both important but if you can only get one or the other the good hardware is the most important. If the hardware is bad enough the support can't make up for it.?ÿ

Curious....?ÿ what was the reasoning for this?
I know Trimble's software has so much more to it...?ÿ is that why?
5 of our GPS setups are Trimble (I have the only Sokkia). They use Cannet for network connection which only works on Trimble. They tried the network Sokkia offers and didn't have good luck so they cancelled that subscription and I only use it as a base/rover. The Sokkia was the only non Trimble GPS they have tried and it didn't go so well, so they probably just want to stick with what has worked for them.?ÿ
