Back in Civilization (Oregon) for a few days and it feels mighty fine. Here are a few photos from the job sites the last couple weeks up in North Alaska.
Thanks for always posting your great pictures. One of the great highlights I ever get I get on beerleg.
Again, thanks.
Ken

“If I wasn't a surveyor I always thought a career as a 747 cargo plane pilot would be quite rewarding...”
Hell, if I were you, I’d be delirious with joy just to wake up each day.
Outstanding ! (again)B-)
very nice photos....just curious, what kind of camera and glass do you use the most?
Hi Daryl,
thanks for the amazing pictures,
enjoyed it very much.
Christof.

So Cool!! Thanks for sharing
Cristof ... I received your email when I was out there but could not reply due to the inconsistent satellite relay. Guess I'll aim for Ghent on the next year man.

Yeah..mostly a Canon 5D MK 3 ...sometimes shooting in HDR, and sometimes an iPhone 5. But my favorite lens is the 16-35 mm wide angle zoom ... its pretty nice...delivers sharpness. And of course the versatility of a Go Pro being stuck to just about anything is a lot of fun to experiment with.
Thanks everyone! It is a good gig, most of the time anyway and one I accidentally fell into way back. I work with some good people. I look forward to someday though actually spending a summer at home in Oregon as I never have done that, like having a garden and raising birds is on my bucket list.
Sounds perfect to me!
Christof.
Daryl-
Great work !
May I be so bold/ignorant to ask what the occupation is of the persons that live where you were Chief Boardwalk Surveyor ?
As to:" If I wasn't a surveyor I always thought a career as a 747 cargo plane pilot would be quite rewarding..."
You never run our of land as a surveyor.
Unfortunately, pilots run out of air too often.
Cheers,
Derek
Always a bit envious to see places I will newer see. Thanks a lot.

Hey Derek ... prob half of the village are unemployed and live a subsistence life style fishing and picking berries with some income from Eskimo Native corporations. A lot of people asked me when the boardwalk construction would begin as they were looking to get on as labor crews. Not much going on in Selawik..lot of youngsters escape by joining forest fire fighting crews or military and others get caught in a rut and a bottle.
