Never heard of Linertec.

In the survey world, that is usually not a good thing.

So much on what we do is based upon easily available help, quick repair turnarounds, and knowledgeable assistance.

As much as I would love to support the little guys, I am not going to buy an instrument that nobody else has.

For example, a Trimble R8 GPS system is plagued with problems, but they are well documented, and even if you are out of warrantee, other surveyors or your local sales rep has likely encountered them, and can offer fixes, rather than send it out for a few weeks for diagnostic and repair.

I would sooner buy a no-name off brand truck, than a survey instrument. Atleast the truck can be swapped out the same day if it stops working right.

I don't think that they have entered the North American market at this time.
quick Google search found a website and their products looked interesting.
It also looks like they are entering the Euro market this year.
It is a division of the Asahi Corp. of Japan so it looks like they are entering the survey instrument market. Thy would have to be on par with Topcon/Sokkia to compete.

Asahi is the parent company of Pentax. My guess is that Linertec is to Pentax as Geomax is to Leica

Yes you are right. I should have known that fact.
Can you find a Pentax here for sale? Or linertec...they are even the same color
I use a Pentax dslr camera and I like their binoculars also.

Pentax duh?

> I would not underestimate Pentax; there is a long history there and of course that type of camera/optics line connection is there (makes sense) in other survey brands (e.g. Leica, Topcon).

I agree. I think they may be popular in the Asian market.Like I said , I have used some of their consumer products such as cameras (still do Pentax K-X camera) and their marine binoculars are rated very high.
I took out an old Pentax 400 mm lens a few weeks ago and it still produced very nice images with the K-X DSLR. I had used it to shoot Hale-Bopp many years ago.
I used a Pentax TS briefly many tears ago and it was a bit wanting in construction and operation, IMO. I have also used a Pentax manual theodolite many, many moons ago and it was bit below average of the others on the market.

But...

I remember from the old POB board years before beerleg forum that many Pentax TS moaned and groaned about breakdowns and repairs. I remember Jimbo of LA really LOUDLY voicing his complaints and others too. There were some users who had no gripes. I think Paul P. in L.A. used a Pentax exclusively and had no such concerns. Maybe thee was better service in the Los Angeles area than in Louisiana.
They were priced under the other Japanese makers such as Topcon, Nikon and Sokkia.
I knew the name Asahi rang a bell late last night before I shut it down here but ..oh well. The colors scheme was the same too. That red/grey finish.
