Equipped with a Lesche Digging tool, and a pistol schonstedt, what do you think?

Ahh.... Most of your surveying must be near electrical outlets where you can plug that sukka in....

Anything over a pound or so and something that will not fit in a pouch is just too much to carry without an ATV or truck to carry the tools.

I've had one of those in my truck for several years; I didn't know it had a name.

I use it mostly for scraping the sides of test holes for septic systems, but it's also handy for searching for a monument when you're not quite sure whether you should be probing or digging and you don't want to make too much of a hole (like in a lawn).

It can also be used to fight off Klingons...

The preferred shovel of the urban/suburban surveyor. They make a smaller cleaner plug of sod to replace in someone's front yard.

Sharpshooter or trenching shovel.

I have one of those for rural surveying too. The one we have has a wavy cutting edge which doesn't look like much but it works better for some reason.

A simple hand garden trowel is useful too.

A spoon for scooping out chisel holes in the pavement.

Nate, I've had one of those Lesche digging tools for several years. Worth every dime. I've also got one of these and for the money I think this is more bang for the buck.

I use a small bulb trowel like this one except mine has two serrated edges. Probably cost around 15 bucks at a garden center.

Looks like, with that offset, it would be easy to convert it to a bayonet for your .22.

Well, I ordered it today. I have a little trowel I carry, but it is not agressive enough in Arkansas rocks.

I'll put my sharpshooter up against that any day. Don't want to toe it you say, I'll put my 24" machete up against it for digging and cutting roots.

I'm with ya on the pistol locator. I love mine.

The idea is to have some sort of tool on my belt, that I can dig with. For cutting, I usually have a chain saw. So, that sort of leaves me empty handed, for a digging tool. Often I have the ATV nearby, with a good digger on it.
