The Leica advertisement that the US Postal Service brought me today may not be completely new, but it was new to me. According to the ad, Leica Geosystems is now selling One Integrated Solution to All of My Workflow.
"So what can this be?", I wondered, marveling that now I would now apparently be able to sit back in my chair as I (per the ringing phrase of the Leica marketing department) "selectively leverage new technology while maintaining architectural stability". Can't wait.
I really don't think you should be posting stuff like that. I mean, somewhere, someday, that is going to lead to an increase in profanity!

Dear Mr. D'Aryan:
We are informed that you have some doubts as to how the "single intuitive and efficient solution can help you solve problems and open up new possibilities". Rest assured that you have not really experienced the range of possibilities until you've used Leica software, known the world over for its obvious, intuitive design and ease of use,
Now you are just being mean.

No, see for yourself "how cutting-edge [sic] workflows drive consistency and help you achieve the competitive advantages that you have been looking for". What I think holds many surveyors lack is the inability to describe their needs in exactly this manner. At the next staff meeting, what a great idea it would be to demand more consistency-driven cutting edge workflow from all present.
😀 Brilliant!
I had not seen that. If you came up with it then you are to be commended!
One should not question the swiss miss; she has all our money.
I find these tech-skeptic threads fun and informative. They should be given a Jack Handey touch, maybe with a background of clouds and prarie, and some ambient sound effects, like distant seagulls squaking in the backgound... but wait, I think they've had those all along.
> I find these tech-skeptic threads fun and informative.
Oh, remarking on the exuberant abuse of the English language by marketing types has nothing to do with the actual technology that I can see.
I agree. I find they wield the big backhoe of hyperbole all too recklessly.
Hyperbole is sales. It can pique intetrest, but it can also alienate.
Mine all mine.
She is actually pretty easygoing if you always carry elevations. None of this 2D+1D stuff. It's worth the climb. The learning curve, I mean.
Leica speaks a language, all it's own; you better be fluent or you will be frustrated. Kind of like talking French with a French Canadian....;-)
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, because it's not, I'm just saying; That's the way it is.....:snarky:
Radar
You done good.
They all seem to have thier own language, and I'm dabbling int he "integration" offewrings of two of them right now. Going better than I thought, but it is an "all in" or nothing choice. I expect to see less and less options for mixing and matching hardware and software.
Sometimes, the promo talk is a little too much, but say what you like about this company, when a failure happened on a system 5 years past end of production, they provided their customers with a fix, as opposed to force them to buy newer equipment.
For that reason alone, I am a fan.
There is a lot of good coming of European countries, quality mindset in Europe. So of course, sometimes they get overboard with their speech. The "superlatifs" (it's French, look it up), I simply ignore.

Problems with Leica GPS500
Since the morning of Monday the 17th of August, the Leica GPS500 System is encountering some difficulties with the satellite reception.
These problems are visible on the instrument by a very low number of SV's (1-3). Due to this pore reception no positioning is possible.
LNR Globalcom and Leica Geosystems are aware that this is a major problem and we are trying to find a solution as soon as possible.
Unfortunately we can not make an estimation on how long this problem is going to last, but we hope to be able to give you an update as soon as possible.
The System 1200 does not encounter these problems.

New firmware 5.10
I helped do beta testing quite unexpectedly with the 1100 series running the native GSI OS, got yeomen duty as far as support from Leica in general, Earl Dudley in detail and Adam Arrington in specific, but Leica came from a different place as relates to optical alignment, compared to Wild, and geared their software accordingly. You very much have to be in their world to make it work.
I'd cut my teeth, as I'm sure you may remember from RPLS, on Geodimeter's RPU OS and while I don't remember a bit of it today could pretty much tailor the programming and data collection to suit the task at hand. I remember learning enough to get up and running in 3 days once I got the manual, had a panic stricken weekend had it not been for the help of many at RPLS whom talked me off the ledge.
I suspect you may very well have been one of them, and for that I am eternally grateful.
Then again, you could be the Antichrist.......
Leica is not subtle about laying it on rather thick, but they are trying to survive just like every other global franchise these days.

Derek, I'm pretty sure that the modular reciprocating seatwork unit you mention will allow the user to "selectively leverage new technology while maintaining architectural stability".
Kent-
Did the razmataz mention the 'Kilt Wearer's Rocking Chair Option" ?
We have to consider this at North Aboyne Farm as the season of Fall is approaching and kilt lengths are being adjusted.
FYI- "Fall" is not 'a tumble', its an 'autumnal' break from the persistent tropical/arididty you are so blessed with and send overcharitably northward via the OWM (that recently seems to be under censored Lawton wraps? ).

No, Derek, your focus should be on scalability of your chair's technology and whether it can be calibrated to fit your situationally adjusted demand structure in an information-rich workflow environment.

Derek,
May not be exactly in line with your request. However as more of us become "seasoned surveyors" and if the number of "upstarts" in the profession declines this may be an option.
