New to Leica but was wondering if anyone knows how I would view a DXF file in the map view. It shows as a CAD file in the job properties screen.
Thanks in advance!
Have a great day, Charlie
as far as i know, that's just it. the controller uses the dxf from cad export as your overlay in viva
Cmsurveyor,
There are two ways to use a DXF in the Viva system:
1. Attached a DXF to the data job - this acheives a background map and also allows the user to perfrom what is called "Tap and Stake". Basically the DXF is a background map until the user wants to import, for example, a polyline that represents say a sewer line. The user can tap and hold on the object int the DXF and a menu will appear to allow to import the select entity into the data job so it can be used as a reference object in SmartWorx. There are also other options to get information about the CAD entity. You can turn off layers or even lock layers so they are not allowed to use the tap and stake feature.
2. DXF Import - under the Jobs and Data - Import Data menu. This option has been carried over from System1200. I do not use this option myself because everything in the DXF being imported is converted into objects in the data job. I prefer to use the DXF as a background attached to the job.
You can have multiple DXF files attached to a job and you can detach them at any time. There are some bells and whistles for the CAD options in the map view if you are in the map view and select the green function key and then F2 (CONF). You can add prefixes to objects that are imported or blank these fields out, choose to generate points at the vertexes of CAD objects imported, etc.
If you notice under a job folder in the DBX folder that holds all the jobs that there is a folder created under the job called Map Files. When you attach a DXF to a job SmartWorx converts the files into a format that allows quicker access and can isloate the objects quickly. If you have a large DXF being converted on the collector it may take a few minutes because of this conversion but the end result makes the use of the file very fast. Once you convert it and use it in one job the converted format can be accessed for other jobs as long as the job containing the conversion is still available. If I have a very large DXF to use I usually convert it on the SmartWorx PC simulator and then move the job with the converted file to my CS controller just to save time.
Put all of your DXF files you want to attach to a job under the Data directory on you SD card or wherever you are storing the jobs.
I have a sample DXF files that shows all the supported DXF objects for attaching the DXF to a job if you would like to have it. Just email me and I will send it to you.
