I'm not familiar with that particular unit, but our GS15's use an SD card. Leica has special Leica branded SD cards which retail for (I think) $200. They insist that these are special miltary spec SD cards that will work in extreme conditions of heat and cold. ooooooooooK says I.

Meanwhile, regular old $2 SD cards purchased at the local office supply work. So far, so good. We have a few of the Leica branded ones, a few of the regular ones.

We use a regular usb stick to transfer data to/from our VIVA data collectors. Our salesman has give us some USB sticks with the Leica logo printed on them but that is just salesman bling. Any type works.

Leica is infamous for imposing data size limits on its removable RAM devices. The DNA, TPS1100 and GPS500 units take a standard PC Card (aka PCMCIA card), but if it's larger than 32MB the system won't recognize it. It may be that the USB stick has a RAM size limit as well.

You may have to format the card/stick to get it to work properly. Try looking for a format function on the software in the instrument then plug in a USB stick and see of the instrument will format it for you.

Our VIVAs seem to work with whatever stick a given Party Chief has handy.

Our C 10 ScanStation on the other hand - that beast only takes one brand of USB stick, and none of us, from the office, to the sales/support guys we use, have a clue why.

Re: the "milspec" SD Cards, If you're up here in Canada, it makes sense to use them, especially if you're in one of the more wide-ranging climate zones like Edmonton. It hit +31*C today (and it gets even hotter inside tanks at a pipeline tank farm), and can easily drop to -40*C in winter (monitoring above a tunnel being dug 3-10 m UG doesn't stop EVER).
