NMLS,

I do not have a HP48X running TDS to look at for this question but it should be simple. You need to remember two things... the TPS700 series ran GSI command language and sometimes you need to run this older combination at a slower baud rate.

1. Set the TPS700 to communicate through the lemo port - Select Shift the Menu (PROG key) - Then select 3 All Settings - Then select 1 System Settings - Page down to page 2 of 3 by using Shift Key then the down arrow - on page 2/3 change the Data Output: field to RS232. This is the only change needed in this menu – select at the bottom to accept and save the change

2. COM Settings – this is something you may hve to figure out by trail and error because of the way TDS was on the HP48. Please just return to the main screen which is the Meas & Rec screen that shows angles and distances. - Select Shift the Menu (PROG key) – Then in the System menu select 3 All Settings – Then select 4 PC Communications – try

Baud rate: 9600
Databits: 8
Parity: None
Endmark: CR/LF
Stopbits: 1

Then select to save the settings

Make sure the settings are the same in TDS

If this does not work and TDS on the HP48 does not give allot of options besides baud rate for a Leica instrument you may have to try this on the instrument:

Baud rate: 9600
Databits: 7
Parity: Even
Endmark: CR/LF
Stopbits: 1

Then slect to save the settings

These are old generic settings some software used for a Leica instrument. It is a long story behind this issue.

Let me know if this does or does not work. If it does not try to explain the options that appear on TDS and we can probably figure it out in the end. I do not see why it would not work.
