I would be very interested in advice from anyone using this app for this purpose.
A couple of questions -
1) How far away from a TS16 (set up at head height) would you be comfortable scanning a rolled stone road surface? Looking for min 10mm relative accuracy.
2) Can the scan area be controlled on the TS16 to scan only a trapezoidal (from the point of view of the instrument) area? Maybe it can be set to scan a distance either side of a centreline?

I run a MS60 so you mileage might vary a little. You can set a scan window in any shape you like (from the perspective of the instrument) then set the density of the scan area. Play with these setting as it can dramatically affect your scan times.
I think you need to do some testing on that material to make that determination. Is your concern is ability to get a return signal or the geometry of the shallow angle? I've been impressed with the ability of other Leica EDMs to get low angle returns on asphalt pavement and even more impressed with the accuracy (1" TCRP 1201). You'll just have to try it and find out what the limits of that instrument is on that surface - it's the only way you can have confidence in the data you are/will be presenting.

Yes concerned with the accuracy of a low angle of incidence. The ability of the instrument of the instrument to get a return is pretty amazing.
I suppose I can scan a section up to say 100m away from the instrument then stake out the recorded points as a DTM, but using the pole and see how far I can get before divergence.
I would be happy with 50m and a 0.5m spacing would be more than adequate
Thinking about it at the low angle of incidence the Z value of the recorded point should be the least affected. I am not too concerned with 30mm errors on the E and N if the Z is good.
