In LDD when I twist the drawing and then label the contours, the auto label function labels the contours in relation to north and not in relation to the top of my sheet.

I need the contours labeled based on the top of my sheet and not based on north.

Any ideas?

It's been awhile since I was actively doing what you are doing but if memory serves me right there is a way to rotate the labels by a certain angle factor. You need to know the angle of difference between your "north" and the "top of your sheet" and apply it to the labels. (I think):-)

We always used to use the dreaded "Base Point North Rotation" (BPNR) to solve that problem...

even if you get it to look right on the screen

it will plot wrong.

I think you have to type in text.

I'd rather use BPNR than manually type in contour labels. BPNR also fixes the other problems with annotation in twisted views, e.g. the line labeling commands will all work correctly, QLeaders will look right, you don't need a UCS to create MTEXT and MLEADERS that are aligned to the view, etc.

The drawback to BPNR is that it can be confusing to people who aren't familiar with it, as the drawing (X,Y) values are no longer the same as your (Easting, Northing). Also, Autodesk failed to take BPNR into account when they created Civil 3D, so you will have issues if you need to upgrade BPNR drawings to Civil 3D.

All things considered, though, we found BPNR to be the best solution to creating LDD drawings that use a twisted view. Details about BPNR can be found here:

Do not twist your model space. Instead, make a paperspace viewport and twist the viewport. Your modelspace will remain intact and the labeling will automatically correct it's orientation. Feel free to email me if you need help.
