What could cause the Description Keys not to work? I have the following set:

DESCKEY MATCHING ON
DESCKEY FILE NAME OF FILE
SUBSTITUTE DESCKEY DESCRIPTION
INSERT DESCKEY SYMBOL

You need to check a couple of things in the 'Point Settings' box. First you need to have the use current point label style box checked on the 'Insert' tab. On our systems, we always have to make sure the 'Match on Description Parameters' is unchecked in the 'Description Keys' tab.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks for the reply John. I have the 'use current point label style' box checked on the 'Insert' tab, but I have always had the 'Match on Description Parameters' checked as I generally use the wildcard (*) in my description keys. The problem I am having is on my laptop,I can copy the project to another computer and open the project and the description keys work. When I am on the road and staying in a motel, it is time consuming to have to manually put the points in layers. I have used description keys for years, but know some surveyors that still manually change their points.

I feel your pain, I have been using the description key files since DCA (not that I am dating myself). Our description key file also relies heavily on the wild card. I think the 'Match on Description Parameters' is used if you are trying to manipulate the symbols based on values in the descriptions. The only reason I brought this up is that one of my employees had the same problems and that seemed to fix it.

Another thing to check is the location that LDD is looking for the label files. I think it is located under the 'Projects Pull Down' (I'm not in the office or I could tell you where). I have found that some times everything looks correct but it is not pointing to the correct locations.

Good luck

Yea John, I have been around awhile myself. I started with Wild Version C and changed to DCA in Autocad 9. The description keys are stored in the project folder cogoDescKey, as I had mentioned in my last post when I copied the project folder to another computer everything works fine. I have four copies of LDD from when I used to have several employees and it works on the others, but unless I take a deskttop computer with me, that does not help me on the road. Thanks for your help, I guess we are the only ones to ever have had this problem.

I don't think it has to do with the location of the Desc file itself, I think it is the location your laptop is pointing to the label styles. It sound weird but changing that location and then restarting my help you out.

My computer at home died a while back, and I had to rebuild it. So I realize now that I don't even have LDD installed anymore, but I have it at work... I remember an issue like this, but I can't remember the solution, since I've been using C3D for the last 5 years.

I'll try to poke into into tomorrow, when I'm back at my computer that still has LDD 2009 installed, and see if I can remember that ancient stuff.
