Working on a fairly simple 5-acre cutout from an 80 today. The only problem was poor visibility thanks to many scrubby trees, tall weeds and other totally worthless vegetation. Sent the rod man out about 450 feet. He stops at a fence. Go another 140 feet I say. He says that ain't happenin'. Sent him on anyway in hopes of getting that perfect shot through some tiny gap in the vegetation. He immediately begins to drop out of sight as he enters a slough area. After a few minutes he radios back to tell me to just follow the pumpkin. WHAT!!!! Turns out there was a secret trash dump in the middle of the jungle. He discovered a partly broken plastic Halloween pumpkin that some kid probably used ten years ago as a candy-gathering bucket. It was a near-perfect fit over the prism/target and fairly bright in color. He raised the pole to full height and moved forward holding it as high as he could as he proceeded across the slough and back up the other side. It was much easier to follow than the normal view of the back of the prism/target. When he stopped and took the pumpkin off he was within two feet of where he needed to be. First time I ever sighted on a moving pumpkin.
