Hi guys!
Juniper Archer2 (Carlson Mini2) is a consideration in a month or two. I need to know if the Bluetooth module that comes with it is a standard feature. My intention is to achieve Long Range connection.
Is there any Long Range Bluetooth module that can be permanently and neatly integrated into Archer2(Mini2)? Parani in my opinion is not a neat solution.
Thank you.
Regards.
I like the Carlson Mini2, but if you need LRBT this may be a better option:
Which is essentially:

I'm pretty sure these can run SurvCE.
I would suspect that Bluetooth communication to a range of 1,000 meters is a theoretical limit that you would find to be rarely achievable under most circumstances.
I have tested the range of the Topcon version of the Archer2 and it was solid at 700 feet. My heels were on the back of curb on US 231 and I could not push the range without playing in traffic, which I elected not to do. The customer who bought the Bluetooth radio equipped Topcon robot to use with this controller has not complained at all about range.
We have sold a few of these units where the internal Bluetooth is the means of connecting to the Bluetooth radio in a robot and this has generally been quite satisfactory.
Certainly yes, the PS336 woulld be a good one I would presume. Its long range (1,000m) capability would be a deciding factor but not its display when under direct sunlight in the field.
I do have its predecessor the PS236 and it is simply good and working. Sun readability is the only issue I have with it.
The Archer2/Mini2 according customers review reveal that the display performance under the heat of the sun is very impressive. This is one I am looking for. I just want to make sure if its BT module provides long range capability.
Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
I'll reiterate what the others have said:
With the Archer/Mini2 you'll get no more than 250m without adding a class 1 transmitter (such as a Parani).
You'll get the same range (<250m) with the PS336, however Getac has a class 1 long-range bluetooth cap that will replace the original while keeping the environmental specs (waterproof/dustproof). The cost is quite a bit more than the Parani but then again you are getting a "neat" class 1 bluetooth solution...
I am thinking of a BT repeater module to make the setup neater. This means that integrated BT module of any data collector can connect to the repeater to magnify the range. Have you heard of any?
Thank you.
The PS336 is already a discontinued product. Very soon for a good product.
Juniper Archer2 Long Range (300m) Bluetooth Module
>Its long range (1,000m) capability would be a deciding factor but not its display when under direct sunlight in the field.
I would be wary of any current claims indicating 1000-meter Long-Range Bluetooth connectivity. I've not seen any published specifications for any device appearing in this thread that can achieve that level of connectivity distance. From the Juniper Systems "A Look at the Archer 2's Bluetooth – You May Be Surprised" blog:
>we are seeing users in the field performing reliable line-of-sight Bluetooth communications well in excess of 1000 feet (300 meters).
The article also states:
>A key to understanding Bluetooth range is to remember that the range is dependent on both ends of the connection. Where two like devices may have one range, two different devices, using different Bluetooth and antennas may have significantly different results.
Having said this, the "Bluetooth wireless technology, 2.1 +EDR, Class 1.5" cited for the Archer2/MINI2 is very impressive when paired with comparable long-range Bluetooth devices (such as a Long-Range Bluetooth handle of a robotic total station) but one must also realize that any amount of earth or other obstacles between the two devices will dramatically impact the communication range.

I made my own setup with Paranis, see [msg=307343]This Thread[/msg].
Field Hawk Radios appear to have some ready-made options for the Leica setups.

Very nice! Thank you for sharing this..
