I have a rather large (very large) job coming up and I have contacted my friend Shawn Billings (the cowboy in the middle of the now famous picture) about this GPS system.

The old Hipers could work, but we need to get some way better distance, cell phone coverage will not work for most of this job.

After talking to Shawn at great length, I am sure we will proceed with this new tool , but would like a little feedback from the users.

Thanks for any advice. BTW , we are talking baselines around 50 miles. I know there will be several base points.

I think the price is reasonable and also! . Thanks

I really like mine, Randy. I am on the verge of bailing out of the network service because I get cell phone "holes" in some areas where I do a lot of work. I am hoping to have the Javad communicate with my Sokkia's or else I'll get the Javad base unit. I have not had any regrets trading in my Leica gps......

Buying a new product can be so difficult. Vendors always claim to have the best product. This by no way has anything to do with Javad.
The last couple of days I had the privilege of working alongside another surveyor with a Trimble r10. I have a set of hiper lite+s, I didn't notice much difference between the radio's on the two, he seemed to loose radio in the same places I did. We both had lock the rest of the time. We were never in any heavy canopy, but I have used Leica for 10 years before I had the hiper lites and didn't see any noticeable difference between them either.
How can there be such a big difference between brands, if your receiving data from the same satellites? At the beginning of the year I purchased set of CHC X91+s, I have only used them a few times, I still have not noticed a big difference. Maybe I haven't done a fair comparison.
I have seen the Javad videos but I think I can get the same fix if it's the right time of day. There are some similar videos for the X91+s.
Maybe someone can explain how the technology has changed to drastically affect the results under canopy.

Javad seems to fix much better in the woods than our Trimble. You also can't beat the internal battery. They last forever. We use it for lod staking in the woods and earthwork. For whatever reason Trimble seems to be more accurate for setting control.

As I posted in another thread, the beauty of the system to me is the hybrid. I never use the network now unless it's absolutely necessary. I want a base rover post processed solution for a check on all rtk solutions. In your situation I would get the 35 watt radio and set up a static ip. You can then switch back and forth depending on coverage and use hybrid for the whole job.
Duane, javad sales.

I don't want to be argumentative, but there may be some things to consider that might improve your accuracy with the Javad. I'd be happy to discuss it with you.

For example, if you are using tilt compensation, but you haven't fully calibrated the tilt sensors, they can actually introduce error rather than compensating for them. I've seen impressive accuracies from the LS. Of course, once you introduce obstructions and multipath you lose precision, and while the LS does well in tough environments it's not entirely impervious to them.

Feel free to give me a call sometime and we can go over a few thoughts that might help.
