for surveyors does NOT have a political action committee and/or a paid lobbyist? Other than Oklahoma that is. I've been looking into this and after looking at more than a dozen states, I haven't found one yet.

You don't think the BOR member that runs the brokerage isn't a one-man PAC?

ps-thought you went to the coast.

I'm heading out in a few more weeks...for now, I'm still slaving away. I'm writing a report for OSLS on the feasibility/desirability of establishing a PAC with a view toward establishing a more effective legislative program. I suspect this is going to not be very popular in some quarters...

You might be surprised. The only time recently (5 years) that I can recall the Oklahoma Legislature seeking input on a subject, they approached only a few minds...I believe they all worked for the same outfit... ;[

Any chance somebody might get to see a draft of your report?

We have a payed lobbyist. I do not like the fact that they even exist. Payed lobbyists remove the influence that should be reserved to the citizens of the state and hand it over to large companies or organizations who can employ the lobbyist. The argument in favor is, that is the way it is done in order to get anything passed, translation, "buy the bill". Buying legislation does not result in good, well thought out bills. The fact that lobbyist are entrenched, now requires their employment, if for no other reason than defense. Corrupt system in my view.

In Iowa, our state executive is also our lobbyist. He helps us monitor the state legislature and only provides (and receives compensation for) lobbying services when needed. Those services have been well worth the money, in my opinion.

To my knowledge, Arizona doesn't. It was brought up at one of our Board of Directors meetings a few years ago, but did not materialize.

Indiana has both a PAC and a paid lobbyist. The PAC has been around for quite some time, the lobbyist only for about five years. It's my opinion that the lobbyist is money well spent.
