I will be working on a project soon where the client "prefers" to have the data processed with and delivered with InRoads as opposed to Geopak.

Does anyone know what the difference will be? Is the difference between the two programs the same as LDD and C3D?

Thanks..

We used InRoads so I have not used Geopak. InRoads uses a DTM file format that is proprietary and Geopak uses a different file format. To transfer DTM files you would have to go through XML or something similar. Both software packages are owned by Bentley and I expect them to become one some day. Now it seems like they are trying to figure out which unique features have the highest demand. Being an InRoads Shop, when we hire an Consultant to do surveys for us, it is InRoads or we will get someone that can use InRoads snf Microstation. And by the way, you can tell if it was drawn in Autocad and converted to Microstation too.

I agree with Steve. They are two different tools, similar to the LDD vs C3D you mentioned.

Best if you start and stick with the software prefered by your client, for deverables.

At one time I think I heard over 20+ State DOT's required deliverables in MicroStation and InRoads.

Thanks for the responses. We have Power Geopak and I am fine with using it, but they want InRoads, but they said they can work around it. I am curious how big of a learning curve it would be to just buy InRoads. Right now MoDOT uses Geopak but they will at some point be switching to InRoads.

Is it really a big difference from a Survey only standpoint - not thinking of Design.
