Anybody know how to determine the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number on a Leica MC75 modem that is internal to a GFU24 housing?
AT&T will sell a SIM card and data plan without a contract, BUT I need the IMEI to purchase the plan and am stumped as to how the user determines that number. Pretty easy on most devices, for instance on any mobile phone dial *#06# and the IMEI number is returned to the display.
I suspect Leica may have this referenced to the SN of the modem, but I wanted to buy this at the AT&T store this weekend for Monday's project.

Joe, THANK YOU! I know Google is my friend (forgot for a moment, I guess), I thought I had searched for a manual on line once before, anyway after a bit of fumbling around, I was able to successfully query the modem through the Leica controller, I now have my IMEI number!
Best technical support around is this board, especially weekends, a real life saver sometimes.
It looks like I can buy a month (up to 1Gb) of no strings attached AT&T SIM card for $50, drop in my rover and hook up to the ORGN and go to work. If this works it will simply be awesome. I have T-Mobile, BUT the footprint isn't as broad in my area as AT&T (but the rates have been historically lower), I guess if the merger goes through in the next year, I won't have to worry about this, BUT for now it gets me a bigger RTN working area when I need it hopefully.
Off to the AT&T Wireless store on Saturday to see if I can make this work!

I use a T-Mobile sim myself with the MC75. I am pretty sure the MC75 along with the T-Mobile plan I have (I am pretty sure it is GPRS only) automatically roams on most networks offering GPRS. Or at least, it has been a very long time I since I haven't been able to get a data signal. I think SmartWorx even shows a special icon when roaming. I'm a little surprised that AT&T would be different in this regard, but who knows. It looks like from google that the MC75 supports edge as well, I didn't know this. I have to wonder if some data plans are trying to use/force edge connectivity, thus limiting the number of towers you can use.
How/where/what program are you using to query the modem?
Maybe I am wrong, but I think T-Mobile no longer roams on AT&T.
In my area of interest for next week, T-Mobile shows little to no data or voice coverage and AT&T is showing fairly solid coverage for both.
I guess if I get the AT&T SIM, I will have a backup plan for this project.

OK, so I bought an AT&T SIM card on what they call their DataConnect Pass, for $30, one week, no strings attached. Inserted the SIM, changed the APN on the Lieca rover and all appears to hook up just fine.
GSM is a beautiful thing, a SIM card is the magic key, I don't think it is near as easy with CDMA to implement a pay as you go on an existing device that the carrier has never sold or seen or ever will.
Not as cheap as a post pay plan, but this will give me a chance to check out the AT&T network in the area, no fuss, no muss. This time next week I can just walk away.
You can recharge your time/data at any time.
$15 = 1 day or 100 MB
$30 = 1 week or 300 MB
$50 = 1 month or 1 GB
The SIM card expires at the data limit or time limit whichever occurs first unless you recharge.

What software/how did you query the modem to figure out your IMEI? I might need to do this myself...
I queried the modem through the Leica controller running SmartWorx.
In the configuration / interface menu, you can enter AT commands...
Took me a little while to find it and I don't have my receiver in front of me this morning, so don't have the exact key stokes for you.

Shelby,
That will not be a problem in the near future. AT&T just purchased T-mob USA from the Germans.
Off to Mexico for more high-speed fun

John, enjoy the race.
Let's hope the deal goes through, estimates are 12-18 months to pass all of the regulatory hurdles, some well placed sources only give 50-50 odds of this getting approved, I have had my ear to the ground in the two weeks since this was announced.
