I know how to chain with 200' tape and plumb bobs. I have done it for years, as a kid.

I know how to use a vernier on a transit. I have done it for years, as a kid.

I STILL use a plumb bob.

I still use a pocket scale. 4" variety.

I had to order another, and 2 together, with the bamboo core, and shipping was 26 bucks! I guess I pay antique prices, for my antique brain!

Nate

The older the violin, the sweeter the music. Some think I an exception to that, but that's OK, the world needs exceptions to every rule.

Nate,

not yet but you are on your way.

I know how to chain with 200' tape and plumb bobs. I have done it for years, as a young man.

I know how to use a vernier on a transit. I have done it for years, as a young man.

I STILL use a plumb bob (as an old man).

I would use a pocket scale. 4" variety if I could find mine.

I am an 18 year old in a run down beat up 60 year old body. I know from pictures you post you arn't run down yet!

in some old boxes are the following items I have used and collected over the years.

A Lietz optical range finder.
Locke levels.
A Wild clinometer? that reads in percent slope.
A set of Leroy guides and scribe.
A full set of Rapidograph pens (clean and ready to use).
Chaining clamps.
Tape thermometer.

I still strap a plumb bob on my belt every morning. And can do all the calcs I need with a pencil and a fieldbook. Not that I have to, but the oldtimer that taught me, taught me well. When the batteries die, I can still keep going.

Somewhere

In my briefcase you will find my 4" engineering scale, a 12" K&E Paragon slide rule, a 6" version of the same,a Timely T-41 shape templete, an Army Lensatic compass and my pocket stereoscope. You never know when a survey will break out.

Crap! Guess I am too!

A few years back, we had an archeologist monitoring a city street in Nome we were replacing water and sewer lines in. Claimed anything over 50 years old in the ditch was an artifact. One of the guys looked up and says, "crap, quess I'm one of those!"

Don't wear the bob any more, but it's in the truck
Still own a 200' Hiway chain
Can't find my K&E clinometer, but I did find my Suunto.
Still have, but don't use myslide rule
Still use my HP41.
Worst part of getting older is finding out the body parts are getting worn out!
