I was ask to do a contour map for a building that sunk in the middle.

Last week I was asked to do a cross section of a sink hole in the middle of the swamp.

The workers rescued were not my men. The projects are about miles apart
I did a similar survey for a forensic case a few years ago. We laid out a 5' x 5' grid and usedd a waterr level to prepare a contour map of the floor with intervals of 0.1'.
The map carried the day for my client. The won full restitutionin court.
I'd love to share more information, but there is a gag orderin place.
I had some fun ones recently.
A high resolution survey of some beachside cliffs for erosion monitoring, and a survey of a staircase for the construction of balustrades.
A farmer disputed the accuracy of his milk vat and the flow rate to the tanker.
I was called in to monitor what the vat did as it emptied.
It was suspected it twisted and buckled under load.
I stuck adhesive targets on the vat and logged points flat out as it drained.
Then compared the calibrated flow meter against the vat and its measure up the side.
From my observations I could clearly see the vat rose and twisted as it emptied.
The flow rates were correct but the measure on the side gave wrong readings.
The vats were also known for their legs to punch holes in the base.
I have done 2 such jobs.
[the King gestures to the window]
King of Swamp Castle: One day, lad, all this will be yours.
Prince Herbert: What, the curtains?
King of Swamp Castle: No, not the curtains, lad, all that you can see stretched out over the valleys and the hills! That'll be your kingdom, lad.
King of Swamp Castle: When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest castle in all of England.
