Number 2 son graduated from high School and is taking surveying and business classes and does like drafting so he been helping me doing little things like punch up deeds and I been increasing the task each week. But it's a couple years in progress. I still have write an R and an L on his shoes when he runs the gun. He's long term Insurance. Never trusted anyone in my drawings anyway. I guess I am a bad manager.

A little cross training can go a long way toward boosting efficiency of all parties and improving morale.
It is a shame that it is not done more.

Cross training is grand, BUT to suggest one day a week will get 'er done, is simply laughable.
I'm in.
I am also.
Problem is, that I have no alternative but do it myself. My Son is becoming a pretty good
party chief, but has not the drive to learn the office end yet.
I would love to "just" work 12 hours a day, but its my world and I have to live in it.
Its a mind set, but someone has to do it and its warm and cozy in the office.
I have cut enough brush lines and have dug enough holes in the ground and climbed enough hills that I am just fine with going out on fair weather days and pointing and barking to my crew.
Remember, no pay until the paperwork is delivered.
Burn out is not an option, I keep telling myself.

I wish I had 12 hours of drafting to do. Heck for that matter, 30 days of 12 hours of drafting and I would feel fortunate.
Trying to find work to do is just as tiring and I'm sick of it.

"I hope my boss never figures out that this CadMonkey can be replaced by a rodman by simply showing him a cad package one day a week."
Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow 😉
I don't know about you, but I spent a lot of personal time learning CAD. I stayed after work and I took the manuals home to read. I did this until I was proficient enough to get work done. I did this because the expectations were high and it made me more valuable. I started out as a rodman as most of us probably did. In the 28 years I have been using CAD, I have never received any training.
OK - one day a week is probably not enough, but you get the basic idea - allow somebody to broaden their skill set and get a few days in the field to break up the monotony.
