I’m doing quite a bit of hydrographic surveying down here in Florida, relatively shallow work anywhere from 1-30’. We’ve used a Sonarmite single beam transducer but we’re not very impressed with the equipment or technical support and are wanting to explore other options.

Has anyone found a Bathymetric solution they really like?

Even in a coastal area, it's something that I don't do enough of to invest in the gear and training. I've gotten projects for a few marinas in the last few years and have subbed out the bathymetric portions out.

Hello,

I could recommend using Carlson SurvPC with this particullar echo sounder. The software allows to use it simultaniosly with a GNSS receiver.

Which equipment are you using? Why don’t you like it?

We use sea floors sonarmite. You can set its data storing by time or distance, but you need to run many lines through your water.

How are you using the sonarmite? Unless the body of water is very small, use the device on a kayak or Jon boat. Their remote boat is not productive if a real boat can be used

I'm using a Sonarmite with an ECT200 single beam transducer connected to a rover and ran with Trimble Access.

It's glitchy, it gives a lot a poor readings, doesn't store depths on 20%+ of the shots & all around isn't very impressive. It get's the job done but I just wanted to explore other options. This is fairly old tech and just wanted to see if there have been any developments in the past 5 years that produce a denser/more accurate dataset.

That is not our experience with seas floors’ sonarmite. You can set it to record by time lapsed or distance traveled. It’s essentially a single point reflectorless total station under water. If you want more data, there are multi beam devices which is like laser scanning under water. But that is very expensive, and a very complex system to use that is best dragged behind a boat or its sensors permanently mounted to a real boat

!!UPFRONT AND FULL DISCLOSURE!! I am a dealer for this product.

I work for a comapny that sells a remotely operated, portable shallow-draft vehicle with a single beam echo sounder for bathymetric surveying. There are a few models that can accomodate your survey needs including multibeam sidescan and even mounting a full scanner to one model for collecting detailed data under bridges, etc.

I am purposefully not naming my company or any specific products to do my best to maintain the integrity of this site as a source for solutions and support and not a 'lead generator' for business. .

if you are interested in more information feel free to reach out and I can send you some white sheets on this product line for you to review and see if it looks like something you would be interested in setting up a demo.

This is the same we've used in the past. Worked pretty well and gave us exactly what we were needing to complete the project. Agree, it takes a few passes to make sure you're getting the coverage.

We run a BL700 on a bathycat. It has an autopilot function that makes larger areas a breeze. The only issues I've had are rough water (high winds) and aquatic plants. We fly a drone over the area to avoid getting hung up on vegetation.

If the boat drone isn't beefy enough we jump in a flat bottom and go...

CVT, do you mind finding me on LinkedIn and messaging me through there? I’m interested. “Shea Gleadle”

We are now looking to explore options above what a single beam can provide.
