I am not sure if there are any deals out there unless you catch someone liquidating their assets and happen to be at their auction.

The prices for wood products made for surveying purposes have always been at a premium fee for a sustainable product.

Lesser quality products are out there that most users will find produce a greater failure rate on the job site.

If a person is in it for the long haul, they might as well be cutting their stakes from their own trees and to their own specifications with their own sawmill to understand why there are few deals in the wood industry.

Would a plastic stake be cheeper than wood; more/less accurate?

@joki

They do make plastic hubs but last time I looked they were considerably more expensive.  They might be a nice option to replace 'whites' as monument guard though.

As for construction staking, the world already has more plastic floating around than it needs.

I don't see an accuracy issue, but abandoned wood will eventually biodegrade and the plastic won't.
