Ford Motor Company is using two Boston Dynamics walking robots to carry laser scanners to map the interior of one of its factories. Interesting from a surveying point of view, but also noteworthy that Boston Dynamics has finally made a sale / lease / rental, at least outside the DoD market (or was this a no-cost loan / demo?).

As an aside, about 10 years ago I pulled into my office's parking lot one morning and heard a strange sound from afar. It was like a loud leaf-blower engine revving up and down in speed about once a second. Curious, I followed the sound across the parking lot, across the road, and into a stand of trees and brush. I could then see down a slope to the rear loading dock area of a group of buildings, and saw Boston Dynamics testing one of their early, big-burro / small-horse sized, four-legged, gasoline-powered robots. It was definitely weird seeing that thing walking around. I had known that Boston Dynamics was located somewhere in that area, so I quickly realized what I was seeing. Otherwise, it would have felt like the opening of a sci-fi movie.

Wow, read the article. Not exactly a fan of our new robotic overlords 😆 , but that article was a bit over-the-top.

@joki Indeed it was the typical car magazine flippant writing style.
