Okay, thanks guys. How often do surveyors, especially for construction companies need to do such a grid on a good sized piece of land? I work for a small civil engineering firm (mostly agricultural projects) and we have to do grids once in a while, sometimes on large plots of land, but I??m not a fully trained surveyor so I don??t know what people normally do. It just seems to me that someone could develop or add to their software an easier way to do it. ?ÿBut at the same time I don??t know how often such grid surveying needs to be done. So you have an idea, the largest grid this summer I did was about 1000 points using a 20x20 meter grid, on a oddly shaped plot of land so it wasn??t easy to make the grid lines.?ÿ
At least where I work there is almost no demand for grid layout for dirt work as almost every contractor moving a large amount of dirt is going to be doing some type of machine control
Well, we do it so we have a reference for our CAD drawings. Then we make our points to stake in CAD, such as for roadways, and export them to our data collector to stake on site.?ÿ
We also use it to create a nice neat DTM to find the catch points of our roadways.
