the I-Phone compass. Has anyone tested it?

Sometimes under 5 degrees, other times it can be off close to 100. If you calibrate it using the figure 8 method as it shows on the opening of the screen, it works better.

Thanks, I was mainly just curious and my first inclination was that it couldn't be real accurate.... but you never know

have you downloaded the metal detector app?

No, I just got the thing and stumbled on the compass function. I wasn't in a hurry to use it, just wondered if it worked. I've heard of the metal dectector app...does it work?

i used it today - while performing a soil test
the contractor had well worn steel toed boots, so i called up the app and the phone sang when I held it over his exposed steel toes.
then it was silent when i held it over the shovel.

i would not use it to look for bounds. anyone would look foolish on all three of your four waving your cell phone around the ground. i'll be there in a real pinch...

or spinning left and right with the compass function trying to get an azmuith.;-)
