I recently got a used Hiper+ with FC-100. Here are a couple of questions:
1. It sees GLONASS satellites but apparentlt does not use them for positioning. I see on PCCDU that both base and rover have GLONASS receiving turned on. In TopSurv i select GPS+GLONASS to be used. I set the Hiper up next to a GR-3 and the GR-3 is using the GLONASS. Any ideas why this is happening?
2. I am having problems connecting the FC-100 to my laptop running Windows 7 Home edition. I downloaded the Windows Mobile Device Center, but it looks like I need a driver for the FC-100.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Did you update the firmware on the Hiper? There was some GLONASS update a while ago.
I forget, did the 100 have a USB port or just a serial? (I'm seeming to recall serial as we would copy our data to the SD card and then pop it into the computer.) Does your laptop have a serial port or are you trying one of those crappy USB to Serial adapters that often fail?
Thanks, I'll check on the firmware update.
The FC-100 has a USB cable to connect to a PC. It connects fine to a laptop running Windows professional but not to one running Windows Home version, so I figure I need to get a driver.
Thanks again for your help.
Did yourself or the previous owner purchase the GLONASS option? It has to be 'turned on' by a topcon dealer for you to have the use of those satellites.
Obviously,I don't know where you got yours, but on ebay almost every unit is advertised GPS and GLONASS. I'd bet they're just GLONASS capable and not activated.
On a brighter note, it's one of the few 'extras' that topcon charges for.
Steve
I hooked base and rover to PCCDU and I see that both GPS and GLONASS are turned on. Today was the first full day I have used the units, and they do use GLONASS, but later in the day the GLONASS satellites are not used for some reason. They are above the mask angle I set, but are not used for positioning. This seems to happen in late afternoon. I set up the hiper and a GR-3 right next to each other and the GR-s was using the GLONASS but the Hiper was not. They are using different versions of Topsurv, so that may have something to do with it.
Thanks for the help.
