Has anyone instructions for replacing the batteries in a hiper lite? Mine are almost 5 years old and the base runs out of juice after about 5 or 6 hours.

Thanks

I don't have experience with the Hiper Lite but here is a link to the manual. It seems to have information that should help.

Not much to it, just don't hurry. Unscrew the 4 Allen screws, gently pull the front plate off, gently remove the rubber gasket, and gently disconnect the battery wire connector from the circuit board. Remove the old batteries, slip the new ones in, and repeat the above in reverse. Be sure the gasket is seated properly before you tighten the screws. The trick is to avoid ripping or squishing the gasket, stripping the threads, and/or, above all, crimping the wires. They are tiny and if you get them caught under the cover plate and tighten it they will short out and the battery will be irrecoverably fried. I know, I've done it.

It's not so much knowledge of Hiper technology as skill with tiny electronic repairs. If in doubt, hire it out!

Man you are lucky. Mine are about 8 years old or so. I don't remember what year they were made.

Mine is okay during the warmer months, but the cold weather really hits the base hard. It will only last around an hour or so. I have the cables to hook it up to an external battery until I replace tha batteries.

There is a battery vendor that sells the replacement Hiper batteries for around $65 each, and each unit takes two batteries. The equipment vendors prices are much higher, around $400 a unit to replace both batteries.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

You can use PC-CDU or TRU to check the health of each of the 2 batteries separately and you can perhaps then get away with replacing only one. But with the wear and tear on the screws and gasket, the aforesaid danger of frying something, the recent advent of less expensive batteries (as noted by Jimmy), the likelihood that the second battery will go before long, and the general hassle factor, I doubt it's worth it.

Thanks for all the input. I see batteries advertised in the $50 to $60 range. It sounds like there are long enough wires to get the front panel out of the way to be able to get the old batteries out. I had read stories about how easy the wires were to break and was not sure which panel to remove.

I think I'm going to try it.
