Hi,

I just purchased a couple of old Topcon GP-DX1. Know they are old but this is more for experimenting and learning. I would be very appreciative if anyone had a pdf of a manual for these, and a copy of TGLOAD. Any other tips to connect to these to see if they work would be great.

Thank you.

I scanned my copy of the GP-DX1 Manual and uploaded it to my webspace.
I also uploaded a zipped file containing TGLOAD and associated files.

Some notes about the DX1:

1. There may be more than one hardware version under the same model name. At least one user has reported that his are recognized at 4700 receivers by Trimble software. That isn't the case with mine. The internal boards of a 4700 are much smaller than my DX1 boards, but I suppose it's possible that at some point they started using 4700 boards and padding them out to fit the DX1 case.

2. The firmware in my DX1 receivers doesn't account for the GPS week rollover, so mine think it's 1994 (or maybe 1995 now, not sure). I can use the data, but I have to do a global find-and-replace of the dates in the RINEX file after calculating the offset. It's not a huge problem -- I've automated much of it -- but it's a nuisance. There is reportedly a firmware version that accounts for the week rollover, but I don't have it.

3. I've not been successful in connecting to the receivers under Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I can get the software to run in a VM, but can't get the COM port access to work. One user has reported that this works under Windows 7 32-bit. I use a laptop running XP to download mine. That's enough of a nuisance that it keeps me from using the receivers more often.

4. Good luck, and have fun!

I See Jim got you your manual.

If either of you are interested in another set, I have a pair of the very similar Topcon GP-SX1 that are sitting around. Great shape including everything.

I'm still struggling. I haven't dug out an old xp computer with a serial port. I have a xp laptop but with no serial port. I have tried endlessly with a USB-serial adapter but that hasn't worked.

A few more questions.

I was hoping to get the GP-DX1 working as a base station with my Hyper+ and my FC-2500 controller.

I can't get the FC-2500 to connect to the GP-DX1. Is this possible? (I have the cable) Do I need different Windows Mobile software? (I have topsurv 7)

Will the GP-DX1 run as a base station (I also have a pacfic crest radio with it)? Can a xp computer be the controller to input the co-ordinate data, etc?

Thanks for the Help.
