A friend of mine is going to Africa, on a mission trip. I'd like to buy a Go Pro (Or something like that) Camera, with a shoulder mount, and let her record for say, 10 hrs a day. She will be gone 30 days. This would generate 300 hrs of video, and audio.
Then, somebody can edit it, and condense it into say, a 2 hr program.
As I thought about it, I'd like a do this with a survey.
Any body here have experience with this idea?
Having 300+ hrs of video, and editing it. How would we handle all the memory on it?
I am looking for information about the feasibility of this. And, how to handle the memory downloads etc.
Thanks
Nate

Recording time will vary according to the resolution setting used and the card capacity. Here are the average recording storage times for an HD HERO2 camera with a 32GB SD card:
1080p (30 fps): 4h 21m
960p (30 fps): 5h 26m
720p (60 fps): 4h 21
720p (30 fps): 8h 09m
WVGA (60 fps): 8h 09m
Reduce the record times to half for a 16GB SDHC memory cards.
Now, to figure out it wvga is good enough.

remember it is just a camera that mounts.
If you want to see what it s being filmed for frame then you have to sync with another device.
Your friend my like a conventional digital camera instead.
They are very cool though. They are good for action sports.
I guess for surveying you could mount it on a head band device.
We mounted one on a soccer goal to film during a game. It has a wide angle view.
other posters here will have better knowledge than myself for applications.
f'sure Thad and his aero films.

Nate,
The Go-Pro is great. We use them all the time on when racing. I must have a hundred hours of data. Some day I will get around to editing the stuff but now it just occupies space on the old network.
The real problem is the battery life. Four hours is not going to happen with a single battery.
With the Hero2 you can get a kit to allow you to view using a smart phone. I think that comes standard with the Hero3.
Be aware, these things do not float. My Hero is now on bottom of the Sandy River. We flipped a raft back in March while running the river to get to a job site. Luckily, the survey gear stayed in the boat along with 1 of our 4 man crew. Unfortunately the only real equipment causalities were two cell phones and the GoPro mounted to my head without the float. Would have been one hell of a film. The river was running real fast.

My videos are from a GoPro 3+ Black Edition. I am not sure what all that means it is just the one the hobby shop added to the quadcopter.
I am by no means an expert in photography but the video and stills are awesome.

Get in touch with Daryl M. for advice. I think he has one.
