I encountered an odd situation with my Zoom80 (a yellow TCRP 1202), and wonder if any of you can shed some like on cause. I was picking up topo shots within a few hundred feet of the gun when it stopped teaching me. I could get it to lock with the Power Search (or whatever Leica calls it), but it wouldn't follow me. At first I thought it was locking on a stationary object behind me, but soon found that it didn't matter where I went, it was lock but not follow.
A reboot of the gun returned things to normal, but I'd like to rule out any problems that I should investigate while it's still under warranty.
With the TCRP 1200 and Carlson it was a simple menu selection on the user end. Something like turning the AutoLock feature on.
If it's under warranty why not send it in.

Okay, I know that some of us learn best under the gun for motivation, but I hadn't thought that a robotic total station would work as well as a pending test or other deadline. Point of interest: what are you trying to learn while "picking up" topo shots. Not Esperanto, I hope.
Funny, I didn't notice that my phone had corrected the word "tracking" by changing it to "teaching." That said, I think the instrument was effectively teaching me who's boss, at least until I walked back over and rebooted it.
iOS has a fun habit of changing perfectly good words to other words it likes better.
I have also have seen this with the same gun. I have also seen it track and not measure. And they will occasionally have connectivity issues with the Carlson surveyor2. I will do the same ol' reboot. I was told by a surveyor at a conference a few weeks back to go in under total station settings and delete the handle Bluetooth device under the gear icon. Search for the Bluetooth device again and it's done a lot better I can report.

I was told that there is a firmware update for it. I haven't updated yet, so I don't know if that will fix your problem but the dealer said it helps the tracking

Hmmm...the website ( https://www.geomax-positioning.com/Downloads.htm?cid=15294 ) shows the latest firmware to be v2.01 dated 12/15/2014.
Often have the same issue with SurvCE running Sokkia robots. Going into the tripod (robotics) menu & tapping Standby twice then searching again always does the trick. Carlson rep told me that it's essentially a cache issue within SurvCE.

My help has told me of the same problem, so I did a little research on it but forgot to actually do the update. Thanks for the reminder. I notice the date as 2014, I haven't updated mine since I bought it in April 2014.
Is yours already on this version Jim?

I bought it new less than 3 months ago, so I'm assuming it's up to date. I'll check anyway (too lazy to get it out of the truck right now), because you never know...
Anyone know the process to upload firmware on the zoom 80? I downloaded the 14 firmware and put it on my compact flash. Is it that simple as finding the file and uploading or is there other steps to the process?

From the user manual:
Software upload All instrument software is stored in the System RAM of the instrument. The software can be uploaded onto
the instrument using the following methods:Û¢ Using GGO the software is transferred via the serial interface to the CompactFlash card in the instrument,
which is then stored to the System RAM.Û¢ By connecting the CompactFlash card directly to the computer either via an internal card slot housing
or an external drive, the software is transferred to the card, which is then stored to the System RAM.Uploading firmware can take some time. Ensure that the battery is at least 75% full before beginning
the upload, and do not remove the battery during the upload process.
