Of course I wasn't actually looking for it (THIS TIME anyway).
I was digging through the MESS on my desk this morning looking for my copy of USGS Bulletin 912 (Spirit Leveling in Utah, 1897-1938) and found one of my “new” HP-41Xs that had been MIA for about 6 months!
The “bat” warning came on when I turned it on, but a fresh set of size 'N' and she's as good as new (which she almost is). The program in it is one I wrote about 30 years ago, and I would hate to have to key it back in (my cards and reader are a bit iffy). I use the program daily for inversing, quick traverse calcs, vertical coefficients etc. on the “old” HP-41X, which I keep on TOP of the various piles of errr...stuff.
Shortly thereafter, I found Bulletin 912 on my book shelf right where it belongs...go figure...who would ever look THERE?

As for the forgetfulness, age is something that can't be reversed. As to the mess on your desk, I'd recommend a pitchfork to turn the pile every once in a while. 😉
