I found this:

At the base of the vertical here:

Where does the Forest Service keep their survey records? Online any where?

Is the S-3152 USFS a reference to a survey?

The survey doesn't show in the BLM records.

The local forest office is supposed to have corner recovery notes.

The Forest Service set these markers in 1969. I found 3 today, all the same number. Two 1/16 (set by FS) and one section corner remonumented. I suspect there are more along the boundary I'm working on. Be nice to have the survey record and know where and what you are looking for. I sort of stumbled onto the WC while looking for a UDOT marker. The 1/16 is what I really needed. The real corner falls on the road cut slope so the WC.

Monday I'll check with the local FS office.

around here- those notes wouldn't be in the local ranger district office, but instead at the Forest Supervisor's office at the HQ for the Forest.

The USFS did a lot of re-monumentation work around here in the 60's for the BLM, using BLM caps and those notes are in the BLM records- no plats were prepared, since no measurements/returns were made.

The cap in your picture looks pretty "Local" - so your new best friend in the survey office at the SO may be your best/only hope.

I think the Forest HQ has a surveyor on staff, position was advertised a couple years ago. So I'll call them tomorrow.

Nothing shows up in the BLM records for the township. Who ever did it built really nice monuments (large stone mounds and sturdy pipe/caps). I know there has been dispute between the BLM and FS over surveying in the past.

Not to be rude, but how is it that you don't know if there is a local FS Surveyor?

I have heard tell that not all surveyors get to go "play" in the woods.:-P

I called the forest HQ this morning and they do have a surveyor (not listed in the phone directory). They do have notes and a plat and are going to send me a copy. They had just recently been to the property which was just sold by the state to private parties. So all is good the boundary is marked.

Being a Utah PLS I work mostly in private country or sometimes the private/federal/state interface. Usually I find BLM or GLO markers. So it's not that common for me to find FS markers.

I was pretty sure they had a surveyor because a position was advertised a couple years ago. Another surveyor from the board called me and asked about the Utah cultural environment. I actually thought about applying for the position myself, even filled out the application, but then decided not to apply, pretty sure my age would have been an issue and didn't want to drive 60 miles one way to work. So why go through the disappointment.

Hopefully I have a new friend in the Forest Service now, he certainly was more than willing to assist this morning.

If its not at the BLM(Federal authority), it must have been done with State authority. The survey should have been recorded at the State required depository. Every state is different and sometimes counties in a state have them in different offices. I'v been in a county where surveys are in several offices depending on their age. Searching for records is just like searching for those 130 year old stones.

GOOD LUCK
