I'd like to be able to file corner records and survey's via digitally seal pdf files at the county. I just don’t see the point of Mylars anymore. All the surveys get scanned and converted to a pdf file. If you want a copy they either email the pdf or print a copy of the scan file.

All the doc's recorded get scanned and they mail the original back. So why does surveys and corner records need to be any different. The obstacle in my county seems to be that the only way into the system is via their scanner. Why if the pdf is digitally sealed couldn't they just put the pdf into their systems. One reason I want to use the pdf is I attach pictures and other things to the pdf, things that don't scan well.

So, where can surveyors in the US file digitally sealed surveys and corner records without any paper or Mylar? Is there really a good reason to disallow this?

Idaho is looking into this. Our Associations of Counties is spearheading it.

I agree. I think it's just a matter of time until everyone starts going that direction.

I'd love to see them allow paper plots, which scan just as well as mylar and are a lot less expensive. Then there is the 2" binding strip on the left side of the plats, which are no longer bound in books.

It's happening in your state. Salt Lake County allows e-filing of records of survey. I'm from CA so I don't have any experience with the system, but I recently saw the Salt Lake County Surveyor speak on the topic at the California-Nevada annual conference. Can't recall exactly how long he said they've been doing it. I believe it was less than 3 years.

That doesn't surprise me. It's a long journey from Salt Lake to my rural county (about a hundred miles and a couple of time warps). Salt Lake County HAS a staffed surveyors office with a budget. My county has none of that (no staff, no budget and no licensed surveyor). But thanks for the heads up as maybe I can use it as leverage that, YES it can be done and IS being done.

We in poor old Western Australia have been able to lodge PDF plans since 2004. If you like I could e-mail the current guidelines.

EJH:

I am a Land Surveyor from Hong Kong, China.
Would be grateful to know the practice elsewhere.

Please E-mail me with the guideline at:

With all due respect to your ailing eagle.
This picture is also very patriotic. The young gentleman is pointing towards Mt. Rushmore. (fool)

Hmmm

Seems appropriate and inappropriate at the same time.
The guy with the eagle is obviously slow, but coming from Idaho, that's to be expected.
Really though, the train hopper may be a little too much for this audience.
Just sayin'

Hmmm

You could be right C.C., it just ticks me off that the knuckle dragger dog whistle avatars slip by.
Ah well, it's only life, ya know?
