I glanced at the surveyors certification on a recent plat for a 20' x 362' strip of land that was conveyed in pretty thick brushy country.?ÿ It reads as follows.?ÿ "..done by me by the method of direct line.?ÿ The unadjusted error of closure is 1 in infinity and was not adjusted." ?ÿI suppose that could mean he set up a gun in the middle and could see it all from one setup and creating unnecessary traverse legs is only going to introduce unnecessary errors.?ÿ Or it could possibly mean the the angles balanced perfectly.?ÿ Very interesting.?ÿ I've gotten well over 1:100,000 before but never infinity.?ÿ I have every reason to believe that the pins will be within a couple of hundredths of where they are purported to be from past work from this gentleman and am always glad to retrace behind him.
...a perfect closure??ÿ Interesting, but arrogant IMHO.?ÿ I think the wording, the unadjusted error of closure is equal to or greater than 1:10,000 would instill more confident in those retracing his work and accepting his solutions with less scrutiny.?ÿ If working from a pair of GPS control points, the traverse closure statement should have been changed to a relative positional accuracy statement.
