Using a Trimble R10. After a successful calibration the electronic Bubble says I'm out of level, but the bubble vial says I'm level. Rod bubble was just checked and adjusted. Which one do you believe?
Rod bubble.?ÿ ?ÿI have had the R10 go off.?ÿ ?ÿI've noticed if I lay the R10 down on the ground and then pick it back up that sometimes the electronic bubble goes off.?ÿ ?ÿSomething in the R10.?ÿ ?ÿRe-calibrate and see if it continues.
The electronic bubble in the R10 is handy, but not very reliable. They go 'off' very easily. Daily calibration is a good idea.
I prefer to trust the pole bubble.
If you find the bubbles don't match, even after calibration, you may have a bent pole.
Or more likely the brass thread insert at the top of the pole. Having the gps head hit the deck (shock, horror, never happens around here) can very easily bend it.
?ÿ
With likely scenarios for either to be wrong, I wouldn't do important work with that gear until i got them to agree or did a third check method to break the tie.
My Trimble gear is all too old to have an electronic level, but my Javad has one.?ÿ I consider these things kind of like the zipper pull with a built in compass on my jacket: it might be useful for rough orientation, but useless for any real survey purpose.?ÿ The one on my Javad goes out of calibration so easily that I don't even use it to orient the receiver to north unless I can't see the sun.
